Mindful communication: Establishing and maintaining healthy supervision relationships
Supervision relationships are one of the most important forms of support that research candidates receive. When they’re strong, the trust and respect that develops between student and supervisor facilitates honest dialogue and feedback, rich intellectual engagement, positive career development and lasting mentoring relationships. However, when they function poorly or break down, they can become a major source of stress for both parties and leave students feeling particularly isolated and vulnerable.  Focusing on the role that communication skills, boundaries, voice and authority play in this space, the session discusses how to establish and maintain supervision relationships that are honest, comfortable and professionally nourishing for both parties. Drawing on the practices of mindful speech and listening (non-violent communication), we explore your experiences of supervision and workshop solutions to any issues of concern. For Supervisors.  08/06/23.  2.5 hrs. 1000-1230 AEST.  Presenter:  Michelle Jamieson, the Mindful Researcher.
