How to make qualitative studies offer big contributions to knowledge
Qualitative research often gains strength from its focused, contextualised nature. However it is often hard to know who small-scale research can matter in big ways. We can’t just generalise through the back door – but we are expected to make significant contributions to knowledge. This workshop will introduce a framework, adapted from a means to critique qualitative research, that you can use to build wider significance into your qualitative study. This can be used at the initial design phase, but also late on when working on analysis and writing up (i.e.  it’s not too late to join this workshop if you’ve already collected all your data!)  22/02/23, 3 hours, 1000-1300 AEST. Presenter:  Professor Nick Hopwood is based at the University of Technology Sydney and has completed a number of published studies on research students’ learning and experiences, given keynotes at conferences on doctoral education, and is a regular facilitator of workshops on diverse aspects of research and academic work.
